Bristol garden centre blooms with HSBC funding

Garden Centre Update > Industry News > Bristol garden centre blooms with HSBC funding

A family-friendly garden centre in Westerleigh, Bristol has secured a five-figure finance package from HSBC to help build a new 4,300 square foot extension at the site.

Kemps Plants, which has banked with HSBC since 2003, has built the extension to meet consumer demand for its growing range of dry goods, including plant chemicals, garden furniture and BBQs. This follows a major renovation project in 2010 which saw the owner of the business, Lee Kemp, use a £310,000 funding facility from the bank to re-build the garden centre.

The business sells a wide variety of plants, shrubs, pots and tools, as well as larger garden items like sheds and conservatories.

Kemps Plants owner and director Lee Kemp said: “HSBC has played a pivotal role in the success of the business over the last two decades, especially when we re-built the site eight years ago and more recently when we extended the dry goods building. The larger space means we can now stock more products in line with increased demand from our customers, many of whom have been loyal shoppers since the start.”

HSBC area director for Bristol, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Sarah Lucas added: “We’ve been lucky to work with Lee and his family for many years now, so we have a thorough understanding of the business’s changing finance requirements and can tailor funding packages to them accordingly. This latest loan has enabled Kemps Plants to grow the business, fulfil demand for its products and support plans to increase its customer base.”

As well as being home to a café which serves hot and cold food seven days a week, the garden centre includes Jaq’s, an on-site soft play area for children and an outdoors area which has its own beach, and a new shed company called Shed Scene.
