Durstons’ director completes 630 mile coastal walk

Durston Garden Products director Steve Durston has recently completed a challenge he set himself six years ago which was to walk the 630 mile West Coastal Path running from Studland Bay in Dorset to Minehead in Somerset.

For the final leg of the journey, Steve was joined by his son Dan, who also works for the family business as national sales manager. Between them they managed to raise £1,056 for a charity very close to Steve’s heart, Diabetes UK.

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high and with more and more cases being diagnosed each year it’s important to keep awareness of the condition at the forefront of peoples’ minds. It is a disease that can often be very complex and is not always taken as seriously as it should be.

Steve chose Diabetes UK, as he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes himself over 50 years ago and since then has carried out a number of charity events in aid of the organisation.

On completing his challenge, Steve commented: “It was a wonderful feeling when Dan and I arrived in Minehead, knowing that I had finally completed the journey I had set myself six years ago. I have always enjoyed walking and although that particular journey is now complete, I still intend to keep up the walking. It is such a great way to relax and enjoy our great British countryside which really is quite spectacular when you get out there and truly take in its pure beauty.”
