HTA & APL members have a record-breaking year at Chelsea

Not only were there a record-breaking 14 Association of Professional Landscaper (APL) members at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this year, all of them have gone home with a medal.

Winning Gold on Main Avenue this year at Chelsea was Homebase’s Urban Retreat Garden. The garden was designed by HTA Board member, Adam Frost, and built by Jody Lidgard, Bespoke Outdoor Spaces. This was Jody’s first solo year at Chelsea, and he is also the Technical Lead Judge for this year’s APL World Skills Challenge.

 

HTA and APL member Hilliers has also gone home with a record 70th medal this year at Chelsea, securing the nursery’s status as the most successful exhibitor in the history of the 102-year-old show.

 

HTA also sponsored the APHA Beyond Our Borders garden (fresh garden category) which won gold.
It highlighted the dangers of potential pest and disease spread through tree and plant movements.

Burncoose Nurseries also won the RHS Plant of the Year 2015 with its entry Viburnum plicatum f.tomentosum Kilimanjaro Sunrise (‘Jww5’).

 

Discovery Zone

SILVER-GILT – The Scott’s Miracle-Gro Company for the Miracle Gro’wers Learning Journey from Compost to Kitchen.

BRONZE – Domoney Ltd – Positive Power of Plants garden, sponsored by National Garden Gift Vouchers.

 

HTA member, Agralan, also won Garden Product of the Year for its potato planter. It allows you to check the development of the potatoes and pick them week after week without digging the plant up. Dragon’s Den investor and this year’s judge, Deborah Meaden said: ‘Any product that encourages people to have a go at growing and having success in their garden must be a winner – everyone in any size of garden, balcony and school playgrounds would love this.’
