Garden centre helps school with allotments project
Published:  01 April, 2008

School children who look set to grow their own fruit and vegetables on allotments in Halifax this year were given an extra boost for their project thanks to the town's Wyevale Garden Centre.

Pupils from Whitehill Primary School, who have three plots on the Whitehill Road site in Illingworth, have been given 21 compost bins for all the allotments and a selection of vegetable seeds to plant on their own allotments. Teacher in charge of the Pupil Referral Unit at the school, Julie Brooksby, explained: "We're thrilled with this wonderful donation from Wyevale Garden Centre in Halifax. The garden centre has not only given us the compost bins but has also presented us with vegetables seeds for the children to grow.

"The donation of 21 compost bins is brilliant and the offer of further support and advice for the children and plot holders preparing to use Whitehill Allotments is also very gratefully received. We look forward to a fruitful relationship with Wyevale."

Whitehill Allotments will feature in the BBC's Gardeners' World programme on April 16th.
