The units have a number of features including felted roofs, sliding bolts on both doors and a cage mesh of 6.35mm 19-gauge (in compliance with avian flu precautions). The new enclosures are smart, practical and ideal for keeping small numbers of chickens. More people are realizing that chickens make great pets, are low-maintenance, easy-going, fun and rewarding. In recent years the demand for poultry products has grown and continues to do so.

Select Cages International have launched nine poultry related products including, three large outside enclosures, a small and large sleeping house, nest boxes, three-piece extension and safety door. All items are constructed from quality timber arriving flat packed for easy assembly.

The company has launched two sizes of "Covered Poultry/Animal Cottage" (2000 x 850 x 1270mm is known as large, and 1676 x 755 x 1032mm as small). As the name implies, these units have totally covered runs to protect the animals from the weather. The larger "Covered Poultry/Animal Cottage" includes a nesting box as standard. A door with perspex windows provides easy access to the sleeping quarters.

The "Covered Poultry/Animal Cottage" can house eight to 10 Bantams or six Rhode Island Reds and is suitable for ducks as well. A pop hole, with a lockable sliding door, provides the animals with access from the sleeping area via the ramp. A large walk-in door on the front provides access to the run. The "Covered Poultry/Animal Cottage" is attractive, universal and practical even for smaller gardens. "Covered Poultry/Animal Cottage" has a suggested retail price of £199.50 and £295.50 depending on the size.

The second new outside enclosure, from Select Cages International, is called the "Country Cottage", measuring 1675 x 1090 x 1800mm. This enclosure can be used for poultry or as an aviary. The unit is particularly high with two sleeping areas. An extension panel and separate nest box are available for "The Country Cottage". This is the largest unit in the range with an RRP of £359.50.

Also new is a wooden "Sleeping House" in small and large sizes (425 x 512 x 430mm and 510 x 600 x 530mm). The "Sleeping House" is ideal for securing animals at night and can be used for rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, tortoises, poultry and even cats! The house is off the ground with a sloping felted roof. The door of the "Sleeping House" opens to become an access ramp to assist smaller animals.
