Garden centre goes back to its 1970s roots ...
Visitors to Wyevale - Woodlands Nurseries, near Hinckley, Leicestershire, on the weekend of June 21st and 22nd, were transported back in time to the 1970s.
Published:  04 July, 2008

To help mark the garden centre's 30th birthday, staff dressed in 1970s clothing and were joined by VIP couple Sue and Andy Mirams from Barlestone, who celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Manager of Wyevale - Woodlands Nurseries, Simon Martin, explained: "Sue and Andy helped cut our special anniversary birthday cake and were our VIPs for the morning on the Saturday. We also had a display of 1970s cars owned by people from the area on show during the weekend, a 1970s disco, free face painting for children and a 1970s disco dancing demonstration from Leicester-based Steppin' Out Dance Academy.

"During the weekend the restaurant served traditional food from 1978, which was the year the garden centre was launched. There was a great party atmosphere and I would like to thank everyone who came along and joined in the fun."

Also as part of the birthday celebrations, the garden centre has also launched a new limited edition rose to help raise vital funds for one of its chosen Charities of the Year Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering (LOROS) Hospice care.

Two pounds from the sale of each "Woodlands Rose", named after Wyevale - Woodlands Nurseries, will be donated to the charity.

Simon explained: "LOROS is a charity that is well supported by the local community and we're keen to add our backing while also celebrating our 30th anniversary in business."

The Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice is a specialist centre providing skilled nursing and medical care in an environment that recognises the particular needs of patients and their families.
