Making cool profits from the cold, with Tetra
Published:  14 November, 2008

The last few weeks have brought with them some unusually low temperatures for this time of year which means that after an already wet summer, pond keepers are even more likely to stay indoors and forget about their pond fish.  Tetra, the leading supplier of fish foods, treatments and equipment, urges retailers not to let pond keepers forget about their fish, despite the cold weather, but create an area of interest in-store that offers products and advice that can help them keep their fish well cared for and healthy throughout the winter months.

Tetra Pond Wheatgerm Sticks is specially formulated for winter feeding, containing high levels of wheatgerm which is well digested at low temperatures. It is also richer in fibre, which aids the passage of food through the digestive system. Regardless of their normal diet pond fish should be fed exclusively on Tetra Pond Wheatgerm Sticks once the temperature falls to around 10°C.

Contrary to popular belief, fish will adjust to low temperatures and rise to the surface to feed, even in the middle of winter. If not fed, valuable energy reserves are consumed, leaving fish weaker at the start of spring. Consumers should be encouraged to check their fish regularly, and offer food if they are active and looking for it. This is better for the fish, as well as generating sales at a time that is traditional quite for water gardening outlets.

To maximise the opportunities available, Tetra encourage retailers to create a seasonal pond display to help boost sales at this time of year. This could include food, heaters, nets, and other linked products. During milder spells, it is also a good time of year to perform any major maintenance on the pond, which necessitates the use of products like Tetra Pond AquaSafe, which makes tap water safe for fish and plants.

For further information retailers should go to the Tetra website at http://www.tetra.net/ or contact Tetra on 08700 554020.
