Kim Wilde: keeping your garden gorgeous this winter
Celebrity gardener Kim Wilde is offering her top tips on growing trends in the world of gardening.
Published:  14 November, 2008

The TV star has teamed up with Garden Centre Update, and Dunweedin' - the recycling company that makes attractive landscape chippings for gardens - to give her expert advice on the latest issues facing the modern gardener.

Kim, who has achieved garden design accolades at the Chelsea Flower Show, is a passionate gardener, who is keen to see gardeners "going green", in a bid to help the environment.

Dunweedin' have developed a range of revolutionary recycled products for garden. Their rubber mulch chippings can create bright and vibrant pathways and borders in an eco-friendly way, with all of their products made from 100 per cent recycled tyres.

Horticulturalist Kim is now giving her guidance on seasonal trends, up and coming products, and the latest techniques that will excite gardeners in the new season.

Winter is the most testing time of year for gardeners, and as the nights draw in the challenge of keeping gardens beautiful becomes increasingly difficult.

There are a number of ways to give gardens a lease of life throughout the winter months - using great flowers and shrubs and innovative design techniques.

Shrubs such as Dogwood are easy to cultivate and their distinctive stems provide a variety of bright shades, from deep reds, and glaring gold, to yellows and greens - even in the deepest darkest of winters.

Flowers like Winter Jasmine could bring warmth to any cold day with its glowing yellow blooms and bright green stem. Whilst Snowdrops and Iris Stylosa are other classic winter plants that can help bring a lease of life to flowerbeds throughout the winter months.

However, it is not just plants that can help make beautiful gardens. By creating interesting designs in other areas, gardeners can add both style and colour, to give a much warmer feel.

Products such as Dunweedin's rubber mulch are perfectly equipped to survive the harsh winter months, and are resistant to freezing and compacting.

Unlike traditional bark chipping, rubber mulch products come in a range of bright colours and can be used to make eye-catching paths and borders, whilst also protecting soil by providing a long-lasting safeguard against weeds.
