Gloucester Joinery Company
A fresh approach to displays
Published:  09 January, 2009

Gloucester Joinery is a relatively new company to the Garden Centre industry, but it is rapidly gaining ground thanks to its wide and varied range of timber display products. Garden Centre Update magazine asked Gloucester Joinery's Andy Bevan for his views on the industry and the future of the company.

GCU: How long has your company been trading?

AB: We have been trading for just over two years now.

GCU: What size is the company and how many employees are there?

AB: We are still a relatively small company at the moment, permanently employing 10 staff.

GCU: What sets you apart from the competition?

AB: We have taken a fresh approach to the needs of the garden centre market being able to offer combined packages of display stands and point of sale. We also now offer a small range of products for the retail market.

GCU: What is your best-selling product and why?

AB: Currently our best seller is our stand package deal, which represents excellent value in maximising selling space versus cost in the garden centre.

GCU: How is your timber sourced and from where?

AB: Most of out timber is sourced from Northern Europe and all is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Pan European Forest Council (PEFC) certified.

GCU: What trade fairs do you attend and why?

AB: We have exhibited at Four Oaks, Southern Growers Exhibition and GLEE. As a new company we felt it necessary to attend as many trade shows as possible in order to establish our name and credibility within the market.

GCU: What are the current trends in the industry?

AB: The current trend is towards more bespoke stand designs and lifting the image of a garden centre outdoor trading area to be more inline with the standard normally reserved for indoor displays.

GCU: What are the biggest challenges in what you do?

AB: Our biggest challenge is getting our prospective customers to use us as a ‘one stop shop' display solutions provider for both display stands and point of sale.

GCU: Where do you see the company in ten years' time?

AB: In ten years' time we would like to be the first and automatic choice display solution company for the garden centre market in the UK.
