Trade Statement from Scotts Miracle-Gro
Published:  05 February, 2009

"While the UK consumer business of Scotts Miracle-Gro generally welcomes the new EU legislation because it matches with the company's commitment to the safe, environmentally sound use of our products, the long-term implications to specific active ingredients are not precisely laid down.

The range for 2009 season will not need any changes as the Legislation does not come into effect until 2010 at the earliest. In the medium to long term we expect to make a few changes to our range of pesticide products by substituting some new active ingredients. Our Research & Development team continue to work well ahead of legislation so that we minimise any sales effect if the withdrawal of a product approval finally arrives. Together, we have been managing changes like this over the last 20 years without upsetting sales or the loyalty of the gardening public to our brands. We will continue to manage our range with the same confidence and marketing skills, making sure that retailers and gardeners have a comprehensive and profitable range of products to make gardening as easy as possible."
