The first is called Cottage, the second Boathouse and the third Functional House. Also available is an unpainted nesting box you can paint yourself, choosing colours representing the colours of your own house.
This is Multiholk - a superbly designed collection of all year round birdfeeder and nesting boxes. In spring time you can use it as a nesting box and in wintertime as a birdfeeder. It is crafted by hand with exteriors representing small cottages and houses.
An ideal gift, the Multiholk is available in nine different designs; it has been developed in cooperation with ornithological experts and is constructed in the best way possible to benefit the birds' comfort and well-being. Unlike many other birdtables, Multiholk is designed so that birds do not sit in the food they are about to eat as this increases the risk of salmonella spread. The Multiholk isn't a nesting box that will simply be placed in a tree and remain hidden, but advantageously placed on a post at a safe height, away from Cats. Therefore, the Multiholk not only provides birds with a nice place to eat, it is also a delight for all who would like to follow wildlife - year round!
The Multiholk was chosen as The 2006 Garden Product of the Year by Elmia Garden in Sweden. The motivation for the award was, "with solid workmanship, high functionality and several areas of use the Multiholk is a very well thought out product. The different design styles from the little red cottage to functional villa make it a charming and flexible product that fills several functions in the garden. In addition it has been developed with great respect for the intended user - the small bird."
Here are some tips for making the garden inviting to small birds as well as for enjoying their presence:
- Place bird or butterfly nesting boxes, bird-tables and bird baths so that you can see them from your window and enjoy the bird life.
- Choose a quiet place without much action.
- It can be advantageous to place the bird-table near a bush where birds can hide if they become scared.
- Keep a small space in the garden untidy. Allow leaves to remain and do not tidy up stinging nettle. Stumps and decayed wood also belongs here.
- Plant bushes close to each other in order to protect birds and insects. If you allow grass and meadow flowers to grow freely somewhere, the birds will feel very much at home.
