Carbon neutral range leads the way for Forest
Published:  01 April, 2008

Sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint is a strategy on the minds of many of today's leading industries.

In 2007, Forest identified that reducing its carbon emissions was going to be a strategic imperative. It realised the carbon footprint of garden timber could quite easily be reduced by changing and improving the efficiency of the processes involved in sourcing and manufacturing.

Having recently launched its first, genuinely carbon-neutral range of timber products for the garden, Forest has embarked on a long-term plan of sustainability that involves continual improvements in waste minimisation, the prevention of pollution, energy management and the use of raw materials.

Products in the existing carbon neutral range include, Caledonian Decking, Caledonian Raised Beds, ideal for plant displays or vegetable plots and the elegant Heritage Store house, perfect for storing garden essentials or as a relaxing garden retreat. With a plan of long term sustainability in place, Forest hopes to significantly extend its existing carbon neutral range.

Having sold Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) products for over seven years, Forest also employs a sophisticated tracking database which monitors and records all timber purchased within the group, offering absolute traceability throughout the entire manufacturing process.

Guy Best, Director of Sales at Forest, said: "As a company we're committed to assessing and reducing our carbon footprint. Having the biggest specialist fencing sawmill in the UK helps us to make this move and confirms the credibility of this initiative.

"We're particularly proud of the product developed with the carbon neutral range and initial feedback suggests they are going to be extremely popular."
