Group appoints Specialist Plant Buyer
Duncan McLean from Rake in Hampshire has recently been appointed as Specialist Plant Buyer for The Garden Centre Group.
Published:  13 May, 2011

In his new role, the 35-year-old will source new and exclusive varieties and ranges of plants for the group’s website and 119 garden centres nationwide.

Stephen Pitcher, Purchasing Director of The Garden Centre Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome Duncan to the group. He has a wealth of experience in the industry and a great deal of enthusiasm.” Duncan started his career in horticulture more than 20 years ago at a 12 acre Victorian garden on the Isle of Mull as a gardener in training. He studied landscaping and horticulture at Oatridge College in West Lothian and graduated in landscape contract management. He then worked in the landscape sector where he found his career focus changed to garden centres. Prior to joining The Garden Centre Group, Duncan worked at independent garden centres in Scotland.

He also worked for Country Gardens at its Hereford Garden Centre and then at its Rake Garden Centre, where he was employed as Centre Manager. Duncan was also part of the operations team as Plant Buyer for the group.

He said: “I’m looking forward to working with the group and helping contribute towards its future success.

“As well as sourcing new varieties of plants, I will also be identifying opportunities for growth from specialist plants within the company, helping to take the online plant business forward and dealing with new plant-based projects.”

In his spare time Duncan enjoys fly fishing, scuba diving, walking his dog and eating out.
