Garden Manager appointed at RHS Garden Wisley
The Royal Horticultural Society has appointed Matthew Pottage, aged 25, Garden Manager at RHS Garden Wisley, Surrey. Matthew becomes part of the Garden Manager team overseeing the varied plant collections, and managing and inspiring the great team of horticulturalists in the garden.
Published:  01 July, 2011

Matthew joined the RHS in 2004 as a trainee student and during his time with the charity has achieved the RHS Master of Horticulture qualification*, which is a degree level qualification for gardeners. He was also the youngest finalist in the Institute of Horticulture’s ‘Young Horticulturalist of the Year’ competition** in 2004.

Speaking about his appointment, Matthew says, ‘I’m extremely excited about my new role and am looking forward to being responsible for the magnificent collections of plants here at Wisley. It really is a dream job.’ Matthew previously worked at RHS Garden Wisley running the team that cares for the garden’s tree and shrub collections. Prior to that he was Glasshouse Supervisor.

Colin Crosbie, Curator of RHS Garden Wisley said ‘I am delighted Matthew is the new Garden Manager and thrilled he has achieved this so quickly with the RHS. It shows the RHS commitment to developing staff and rewarding talent and ability.’

Matthew starts his new role immediately.
