Lack of rainfall across the UK means less water for you
Lowest reservoir water levels in years will not be topped up by sufficient rainfall.
Published:  06 February, 2012

Across the country increased restrictions are coming into force. Save your water! That's the advice from the water agencies, whose determination to make the consumer responsible for their own water use is unrelenting. Hose bans are the council’s way of enforcing this, but without enough notice it can leave you high and dry – literally.

Limited supply due to lack of rainfall over a prolonged period has spelt trouble for reserves.  Many regions have applied for river water diversion to supplement their supply; however, this is again limited to what will be allowed and what is available. Anglian water says: 'Pitsford and Rutland Water are now both showing the impact of low flows in the Rivers Nene and Welland.  Reservoirs are 71% full and groundwater levels are below average'.

South East Water is taking steps to protect one of its key reservoirs and secure future water supplies for customers in Sussex, as a result of a worsening drought situation. The Government has given them permission to  reduce the minimum flow in the River Ouse, below  Barcombe Water Treatment Works. How can we solve these problems?

South West Water reports having drier and drier summers, but increased rain in the winter – however,  the evaporation rate together with lack of water collection means overall they are increasingly worse off. What can the consumer do?

North Westand North East water authorities are asking customers to save water by altering the way they use the shower and the toilet, pretty extreme measures for pretty extreme circumstances. What’s the answer?

These are not isolated incidences; it’s coming to all of us. Take action now to conserve your water For Your Own Use.

Your own Water Butt will give you control over how much water you have to use on things that are not considered essentials. To take control make sure you’re saving your own water.
