Johnsons lawn care products for springtime
Published:  05 February, 2010

Springtime is an excellent time of year to review the condition of your lawn especially after a hard winter has damaged the turf.

Every year approximately a quarter of the originally sown species may die leaving space for weeds and coarse grasses.

One of the most effective ways to improve it is to feed the lawn and introduce new grass by oversowing fresh lawn seed and feed into the existing grass.

It is important to treat the whole lawn as just patching creates a mottled and unattractive appearance.

The use of modern, fine leaved disease resistant varieties of grass seed combined with the fertiliser Growmore, as found in Johnson’s Quickfix, can significantly improve a lawns appearance. The fine leaved perennial ryegrass is quick to germinate and creates a dense hard wearing lawn.

The Growmore speeds up establishment of the new grass and increases the number of healthy plants by encouraging the development of a vigourous root structure. The balanced NPK of Growmore is perfect for application in Spring.

To achieve a lawn with a finer appearance but still able to withstand wear & tear, shade and drought Johnsons Quick Lawn treated with Germinator is an ideal choice. Johnson’s Tuffgrass remains one of the most popular choices with lawn owners because it offers a hardwearing lawn that establishes rapidly while representing great value for money.

To achieve the best results close mow the lawn followed by vigourous scarification using a spring tine rake or powered scarifier. This will remove the layer of dead grass at the base of the sward allowing the new seed and fertiliser to make contact with the soil.

Spike the ground with a fork to ease compaction and ideally top dress the lawn using a higher proportion of sand for heavier soils and more loam for lighter soils.
