Spotted: A rare bloom at Squire’s Garden Centre in Milford

squiresThe extremely rare Kalmia Cuneata plant is currently in flower at Squire’s Garden Centre in Milford. Believed to be the only deciduous Kalmia in cultivation and the only National Plant Collection® of Kalmia latifolia in the UK, it is most unusual for this plant to flower at this time of year but perhaps it can be put down to the Indian Summer that we’ve experienced.

The Kalmia Cuneata is a species of flowering plant in the heath family and is native to the eastern United States. The leaves are showing a gorgeous rich red colour which blend in to surrounding autumnal colours.

The plant is on full display for the public to view, thanks to the work of the Squire’s gardening team. Get yourselves down to Squire’s Milford to see it in all its glory.
