Turtle Mat wins Commendation for a second year running at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2013

This is only the second year the company has exhibited at this prestigious event and Commercial Director Susan Leaver was astounded to be told they had picked up another award. “Last year we came to Chelsea with no expectations of winning anything as it was our first time. But naturally we were over the moon when we were given this honour. To win it for a second time is truly amazing. It makes all the time and effort we’ve put into preparing for such an event all worthwhile.”

The theme of this year’s centenary show was a celebration of past decades within the timeframe the event has been running. The Turtle Mat’s stand was designed to reflect the1950s with soft pastel colours associated with the era’s fashion and interiors. The stand itself was painted a classic cream and duck-egg blue with the planting focussed on traditional favourites in pinks, purples and blues including Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spectabilis), Clematis and Phlox.

A feature on the stand was a new collaboration with fine art ceramicist Dee Hardwicke who is famed for her distinctive style and passion for the British countryside. The first collection of mat and runner designs will be available this autumn and will feature three designs Oak Leaf, Butterfly and Orchard.

Susan concludes: “Chelsea was a fantastic platform to showcase our latest designs and gauge feedback. The new Dee Hardwicke designs were extremely well received. I am even more confident going forward that they will prove to be one of our most popular collections yet.”
