Expansion approved for Highfield Garden World

A Gloucester garden centre has been given the green light to move ahead with a major extension to its restaurant, shop and car park.

Experts at Malcolm Scott Consultants were instructed by Highfield Garden World in Whitminster to prepare and submit proposals for the extensive scheme to Stroud District Council.

Andrew Burton of MSC said: “We are delighted to have worked with the Highfield team to prepare plans for 607 m² of heated buildings at the Bristol Road centre to support the expansion of both the restaurant and the centre shop.

“This is a significant opportunity. Amounting to an 11 per cent increase in space at the centre, it will enable Highfield to capitalise on its popular restaurant and extend retail offering. The permission also included a 1,422m² partially enclosed plant canopy to facilitate additional products and attract higher levels of footfall.

“Such an expansion would of course require additional parking facilities to accommodate the anticipated increase in visitors, and as such the council agreed that Highfield’s existing 320 car parking spaces should be enhanced by 25 per cent, with permission being granted for a further 80 spaces.

“This is another great success story that will see a well-established UK garden centre develop and grow its business further in 2020 and we are thrilled to have supported the team. We look forward to seeing the extension unveiled next year,” he added.
