GIMA Day Conference: focusing on the hot topics of the day

The forthcoming GIMA Day Conference is set to tackle head on those issues that are directly affecting the garden retail industry, arming attendees with the knowledge, inspiration and confidence to move forward in a post-Brexit world.

Leading the schedule will be John Sawyer, a senior account manager at Moneycorp – the award winning foreign exchange specialist. John’s session will focus on the volatility of the foreign exchange markets, considered to be the biggest factor affecting GIMA members today. Focussing on the impact of Brexit upon this ongoing volatility, John will also outline the ways that GIMA members can mitigate their exposure to this risk.

Rebecca Hardy from Kidwells Solicitors will be leading conference attendees through the forthcoming changes to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), coming into effect May 2018. Under these changes, the responsibility for compliance will fall on company directors and senior leadership. Rebecca’s session will outline how organisations can become and remain compliant, avoiding any fines or enforcement action.

Additional speakers also confirmed for the event include Raoul Curtis-Machin, director of horticulture at the HTA, who will be giving an update on the latest thinking from the corridors of power on ‘Customs and tariffs in a post Brexit world’.

George Bullivant from Gardenforum will also be hosting another GIMA Panel Debate. During this debate, GIMA members will be sharing their experiences of the hot topics of the day, including ‘trying to share the pain of price increases with retailers’.

Lastly, Glee event director Matthew Mein will be providing an update on both Glee’s concession show at Spring Fair 2018, as well as details of plans for the main annual exhibition in September 2018.

GIMA director Vicky Nuttall said: “As a leading trade association, we recognise that we have a responsibility to our members to provide a platform for discussion and thought leadership. Our Day Conferences are an important part of this, and are designed to combine unrivalled networking opportunities and relevant educational content. The forthcoming event has been put together to arm those who attend with the right knowledge and skills to navigate the many external pressures and changes that will affect our industry in both the short and long-term. I’ve no doubt it’ll be yet another enjoyable day. I look forward to welcoming all those that join us.”
