Introducing National Growing for Wellbeing Week 2020

National Growing for Wellbeing Week (1-7 June 2020), run by the gardening social enterprise, Life at No.27, will celebrate the power of growing your own food. Focusing on the importance of looking after our emotional wellbeing and using gardening as a fun, therapeutic tool for people of all ages.

The 2020 week, sponsored by pioneering UK safety ladder specialists Henchman, aims to raise awareness of the benefits of gardening through schools, parents, youth clubs, charities, care homes and businesses. Throughout the week there will be live chats on Instagram with gardening heroes, psychologists and teachers, as well as competitions, exclusive gardening offers and free downloadable resources.

This year’s theme; ‘Grow Your Own Happy’ focuses on setting goals, taking time out just for yourself, playing outside and sowing seeds. The gardening industry is being encouraged to get involved by offering exclusive discounts, competitions and most importantly showing support and spreading the message via social media.

Annabelle Padwick, founder of Life at No.27 said: “The national week is a brilliant opportunity for brands and retailers to get involved in a gardening campaign that reaches out to multiple different groups of potential customers that wouldn’t usually consider gardening as a beneficial pastime. It will highlight how fantastic growing your own food can be for physical and mental health, by sharing incredible stories, raising awareness and inspiring new growers.

“We have already received a record number of requests for the new and improved downloadable 2020 Growing for Wellbeing resource pack, which already shows 1000’s of children and young people will be taking part in the week. Plus, we have created assets, example tweets and posts for businesses to adapt and use as part of their own communication strategies.

Also commenting, Tom Kitching, managing director of Henchman: “We are delighted to sponsor Growing for Wellbeing 2020 and support Annabelle’s brilliant work through Life at No 27. Safety and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do here at Henchman.  It has long been known that gardening can support emotional and mental wellbeing, so it made complete sense for us to support and align with an inspirational initiative to boost mental health, in an accessible and affordable way as Life at No. 27 does across its initiatives.”

National Growing for Wellbeing Week was first launched in 2019 by Life at No.27, a social enterprise founded by Annabelle Padwick with a clear vision to change lives through the power of gardening, supporting people of all ages struggling with isolation, mental and physical ill health.
