Somerset based Durstons, saw a 46% increase in its sales last month and its company director, Chris Durston attributes the success to a combination of factors, including a reputation within the industry for offering excellent quality, the appointment of a new National Sales Manager – Ruth Green, and the support of a dedicated factory team and customer service department headed up by Office Manager, Nicky Sutton.
“The word is out “says Ruth, “and the message is getting across that Durstons really is a great company to work with. In addition to the above, we have also invested in a sustained PR campaign with the help of Papillon Publicity. When buyers experience the service we provide, they rarely go anywhere else. We see our customers’ ongoing success, as a reflection of our commitment to getting things right for them”, continues Ruth.
Chris commented ‘We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously by managing our land sensitively and restoring and adding new wildlife habitats after the peat has been removed. The result of a long-term investment is the inclusion of Gro-boost, a supplementary organic ingredient that reduces our dependency on peat whilst producing a long lasting nutrient boost for plants’.
With sales up 46% in May the company is confident of a bright future and with the recent dry spell a promising good harvest for 2014.
“It’s all about holding your nerve and keeping calm” continues Chris, who along with Co-directors Steve and Dan Durston is very proud of the British family owned business which has been operating from the Somerset levels for over 150 years.
