A NATIONWIDE family of garden centres has this month (April 2009) handed over a cheque for £39,595 to a charity that helps people affected by breast cancer.
The Wyevale family of garden centres raised the cash by selling Breast Cancer Care pin-badges in their 122 garden centres around the country.
Lorrie Robertson, Marketing Director for Wyevale, said: “We are delighted to have raised this amount of money for Breast Cancer Care. It is an outstanding charity that relies totally on donations from the public to carry out its work in providing support and information to the thousands of people dealing with this terrible disease, which may affect us all at some point in our lives.
“We have been selling the charity’s pin-badges in our garden centres during the past two years for £1 each, so it is thanks to the generosity of our garden centre visitors that we have managed to raise this amount.”
Breast Cancer Care’s vision is to provide every person affected by breast cancer with the best treatment, information and support. The charity combines the personal experiences of people affected by breast cancer with clinical expertise to provide information and offer emotional and practical support. It also brings people affected by breast cancer together.
Commenting on the partnership, Breast Cancer Care’s Director of Fundraising, Murray Lindo said: “One person is diagnosed with breast cancer every 11 minutes. Our mission is to be there for each and every one of them but we can’t do that without the help of companies like Wyevale. The money raised by Wyevale and their customers means that we can offer information and support to more people at a time when they need it most.”
Breast Cancer Care campaigns for improvement in standards of support and care and promotes the importance of early detection.
